Nomenclature

Over at the Volokh Conspiracy they've been talking about how libertarians can briefly describe their views to those unclear on the concept. (here, and here)

David Bernstein considers, and rejects, 'classical liberal,' 'market liberal,' and 'political pacifist,' although I kind of like that last one.

Lately I've been using the term 'non-leftist liberal,' especially when talking with leftists. This does three useful things. It points out that liberal and leftist are not synonymous, as is generally thought by many Americans. It reinforces the fact that libertarians are not right wingers, and as a bonus, generally confuses everyone.
