Retitled

The proposed amendment allowing Congress to punish flag burning lacks a good moniker. I'd like 'The Freedom To Not Burn the Flag Amendment,' it has a nice Orwellian ring to it.

What more do you need to know about the state of our Union than a large majority of the populace is reported to favor the thing? I wonder, of that majority, how many think our founders would approve of it?

Many things amaze me about the thing, such as, although I find burning an actual flag repugnant, enjoying parading in front of any given city hall and burning a flag with 47 stars, or somesuch.

It's as if there were a Special Constitutional Amendment For Stupid People.

I think our founders would be against a lot of things going on today -- not the least of which are Kelo and Raich, to name just two recent examples -- but that doesn't seem to stop legislators or prosecutors.

Honestly, though? If this this passes I'll be shocked.
