Blog Commentry

Linda Seebach has an interesting piece on the blogosphere's place in the journalism world.

The Rocky Mountain News just doesn't get it. Of course, snide and prejudicial columns like those by Linda Seebach do little to change the opinion many increasingly have of the Mainstream News Media.

Bloggers are the future of journalism. Period. And bigots like Seebach are only hurrying the future along when they pen dismissive op/eds as objective professional journalism meant to backhand bloggers.

I reread the Seebach article I don't get that. She's on our side. After talking to her personally on a couple of occasions I'm pretty sure about it.

Yeah, I'm getting the same thing as Walter on this one--and, having met her, I've always had the feeling that she was very supportive of blogs in a general sense.

I was disappointed that she didn't come to the last Bash. She's been a wonderful addition to a number of our gatherings and has been nothing but respectful to the bloggers in attendance.

Well, two out of three ain't bad!

And have you all noticed that John Temple has started a blog?

I would have been at the Bash, Zombyboy, but I was in Minnesota visiting my son in St. Paul and I'd bought the airplane tickets before the date was announced. Consult me on the date of the next one, and if I can be in town I'll buy a round or two of drinks.

You know I'm going to hold you to that, right? Even though your reason for missing the party was a pretty darned good one.

The following comes from Lynn Bartels of The Rocky Mountain News. Mr. John Temple, the editor, defends the remarks, which are without merit or value:

The Republican Party is controlled by a bunch of 'home-schooling,
gay-bashing, Limbaugh loving, right-wing Republican psychos.'

If you find these remarks offensive contact the head of Scripps-Howard, which owns The Rocky Mountain News, Kenneth W. Lowe.

James, are you referring to this? [Excerpt from http://coloradopoliticalnews.blogs.com/colorado_political_news/2005/04/qa_with_lynn_ba.html ]

[Q]Lynn, last year on Colorado Inside-Out, you referred to Republicans as "a bunch of home-schooling, bible thumping, gay bashing...people." Does this thought about a particular group of people you report on affect your stories in any way?

[A]Actually, you're misquoting me. I was reminiscing about the Republican Party before it became controlled by a bunch of "home-schooling, gay-bashing, Limbaugh loving, right-wing Republican psychos."

Was that a gross generalization? Yes, but it was said in fun and Peter moved on before I could elaborate.
[End excerpt]

That's all I could find via google. Do you have anything more substantive?

It was said in fun? Where's the fun in such remarks? Especially coming from a supposedly professional, objective journalist? Or is the just business-as-usual when it comes to the double standard Liberals like those at The Rocky Mountain News practice and perpetuate? Would it be appropriate to call Bartels a no-talent slut? Is that just said in fun?

As to Peter Boyles, the fact is he is a no-talent coke-snorting hippie who couldn't get a real job when he first started in the news media in Denver and had to schelp used furniture on late-night television to pay for his drug habit. That's not said in fun. That's fact. That's truth. And Mr. Boyle and Ms. Bartels and their ilk should stick to reporting fact and truth instead of passing off their narrow-minded, elitist opinons as such.

She should be fired for her remarks. Period.
