Makes Sense

It's been confirmed - the KGB was behind the Pope's assassination attempt in 1981.

It's not surprising, as those people had no limit to their depravity, but it's still somewhat shocking to get the proof.

I've never seen any reason to disbelieve that the most likely scenario was that Agca was hired by the Bulgarians, but I'm clearly missing something here, because I don't see anything new that hasn't been talked about for decades. The assertions and rumors have always been there, and they've periodically been muttered about in the Italian press. Here you give a cite that they are, again, being muttered about in the Italian press. If this is "confirmation" of something, than we've also had a great many alien visitors on planet earth.

Did I miss the part where you translated the Stasi documents, and personally swore to the chain-of-custody, and put forth evidence that these Stasi files document uncontrovertible truth? (Because, of course, nothing ever was put down in those files but completely truth, as everyone knows.)

If not, this word "confirmed" may not mean what you think it means. Even if this is slightly less reverential to the "Sofia News Agency" than they deserve; how's the track record of the reporter, by the way? Who is the reporter? Or is it Italian Odji you regard as utterly reliable? Or your long acquaintanceship with Ferdinando Imposimato? The scientific verifcation of the "unidentified picture"? Why did Pope John Paul II apparently lie about this, then, in 2002? Why the acquitals from Italian courts?

"Confirmed," eh?

Yes, confirmed, at least as good of a confirmation as we can get out of the mainstream Italian press. The magistrate could be lying, but lacking evidence of such then this seems to be the most complete and accurate account of the incident.
