Jeralyn reports that Denver's own Diana DeGette has been named House Chief Deputy Whip.
DeGette's press release is here.
Posted by Walter at January 4, 2005 03:28 PMAt first I glanced at it & thought it said she was whipped by a chief deputy. Damn wishful thinking again.
As for her being Denver's own - that's a bug not a feature. :) Or perhaps a symptom?
But her rise in influence does not bode well for the Republic. She talks fo serving the greater good of the state & nation but her means to do that are as harmful as is possible under her circumstances.
I'll wish her well when she leaves public office, til then I'd point to her as an example of why we should have resurected the T&F Kit* a few generations ago.
* Tar & Feather Kit - politician sold seperately. :)
Posted by: Publicola at January 5, 2005 07:01 AMShe seems like a run of the mill leftie to me. That's not good, but pretty much what I expect from the national Democratic party, so no big deal that she's rising through the ranks of the party.
Posted by: Walter at January 5, 2005 11:53 AMShe would just be a run of the mill leftie, except from what I have seen she seems to be being groomed for replacing one of the more ardent gun control supporters.
So now she's seemingly just another socialist but she has the potential to be a serious thorn in my side judging from her present & potential behavior on the gun issue.
Posted by: Publicola at January 5, 2005 03:05 PMWhat's this I hear about whips in the US Congress? Don't they know how to behave? I mean, they're grown-ups, adults, and you'd think they'd be able to keep themselves in line without someone cracking a whip over their heads. And what about chains? Don't they need chains too? What's the point of whips without chains?

Oh, I see. Well, that's different. Nevermind.
