Update! Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash 3.0! Update!

untitled.bmp

The biggest yet. We've reserved space at the Denver Press Club. Expect the turnout to be high. With this much advance notice, you've got plenty of time to make airline reservations.

Bump and update:

Various items will be available in a silent auction format, with proceeds benefitting The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. If you have anything you'd like to donate, contact me walter..at..walterindenver..com (without the extra dots, natch) You'll get some nice publicity for your trouble.

Remember, the Denver Press Club is at 1330 Glenarm, just a little way North of Colfax in downtown Denver. We'll get started around 7 PM, or thereabout.

Kudos to Zombyboy for the graphics and Darren Copeland for the lead on the Denver Press Club.

Every time I hear about a blogger bash, I want to go, but something or other comes up, preventing me from attending.:( Maybe next time I'll luck out and make the pilgrimage from Colorado Springs. BTW, what time of day does it start, and can you give the address of the Denver Press Club?

Posted by: Bloodthirsty Warmonger at April 2, 2004 04:18 PM

Everything you ever wanted to know about the Denver Press Club, (303) 571-5260, 1330 Glenarm Place Denver, CO 80204.

This is great news.

Posted by: TalkLeft at April 3, 2004 06:39 PM

Being carless, I wonder if possibly anyone else might be going from Denver who might give me a lift. If it's bus-accessible, I could probably bus in, but doubt I could bus back.

Posted by: Gary Farber at April 3, 2004 11:35 PM

/me whips out the light-rail map

The "D" line goes to 14th/California. You probably already knew that though. I light-railed in to the last one, no troubles. Does that help?

Posted by: jed at April 4, 2004 02:29 PM

Gary, I'll probably be able to help you out. E-mail me if you can. (You might want to have a back-up plan handy.)

Posted by: dorkafork at April 4, 2004 06:20 PM

Here's a map if anyone needs it.

Posted by: dorkafork at April 4, 2004 07:21 PM

What time do the festivities start?

Posted by: Ed Driscoll at April 7, 2004 08:40 PM

Ed, where we are, is the party. In other words, it starts whenever we get there.

Posted by: Stephen Green at April 12, 2004 12:37 AM

The hell with all that, where's the girl?

Posted by: Hucklebuck at April 12, 2004 01:13 PM

Second that. Where's the chick in the link from vodkapundit?

Posted by: rosignol at April 12, 2004 03:05 PM

That was Jeff Goldstein's link with the babe, not mine.

And I'm very sorry about that.

Posted by: Stephen Green at April 13, 2004 01:07 AM

The Press Club is well worth visiting, a National Historic Landmark that reopened last fall after an extensive remodelling job. There's a gallery of newsmaker caricatures in the main dining room, and usually an exhibit upstairs.

"The club is one of the most distinctive private clubs in America. For more than a century, it's played host to poets and presidents, writers and visiting journalists. Ginger Rogers learned to play poker here. Carl Sandburg stopped in for dinner. Damon Runyon drank here. Woodrow Wilson paid a call." (DPC Web site)

And we'll be able to talk without screaming ourselves hoarse, which is always nice. Great idea of Darren's.

Unless there's some special thing downtown that night, the nearby parking lots are $3, and the meters south of Colfax (one block away) go off after 6 p.m. Updates later as needed

--linda seebach, Rocky Mountain News (and Press Club member)

Posted by: linda seebach at April 13, 2004 05:36 PM

On Colorado Matters, Dan Drayer recently interviewed the president of the DPC about the remodeling, and how it was to a huge extent financed by Dean Singleton and carried out by DPC members with their bare hands.

I must say they did a wonderful job.

Hey Walt....me again. Still wondering about that Biff Rose question.
Tell ya what....
I'll just do a post at my site about why I want to know this, okay?
(Briefly, I got an email from the guy two years ago where he mentions "Walter in Denver" is his producer and then I found you, so, naturally...I'm wondering.)

Posted by: Stevie at April 14, 2004 07:47 AM

Oh sure don't list the airfare from D.C. Just for that, I'm not coming. :)

Posted by: Matthew Edgar at April 14, 2004 08:22 AM

Do we have to be a Colorado blogger to attend the festivities? I live one state west and read soooooo many RMB's that I would love to have an excuse for a road trip to meet them...

Posted by: Rae at April 14, 2004 02:45 PM

Of course. The farther you travel to get to the Bash the more likely that someone will buy you a drink.

Posted by: Walter at April 14, 2004 03:27 PM

and remember to bring darts....yes darts...the downstairs is pretty cool. I may have to give my ghost tour about the two that live in the DPC...an added twist.

mwhhaahhhhhhh *cough* *gag* hahhhhh!!!

Posted by: Darren at April 14, 2004 03:47 PM

Whew! For a moment there, Darren, I thought you said, "tarts."

A free drink? Well, then...how can I not come?

Darren said "darts" remember...

Posted by: Rae at April 14, 2004 05:29 PM

No tarts? Forget it then, I'm not going.

Posted by: Stephen Green at April 15, 2004 11:34 PM

Wow, all youze guys are Denverites? I didn't realize. This looks way too cool. Paul and I would love to check it out, so count us in...

Posted by: willow at April 17, 2004 10:38 PM

I'll be attending in spite of the fact that my side of the political spectrum (and my gender) is outnumbered. :)

I am neither a "babe" nor a "tart" though. Just for the record.

(I anticipate a good time in spite of my bad experience last year when an unexpected and severe reaction from some medication I was taking put me in bed for two days. I don't blame the psychic 'waves' from all of those bloggers trying to convince me Left Is Wrong, for that, though.)

But I do think someone should inform Steve's Bride about that "tarts" remark. (I hope the honeymoon isn't over?)

Posted by: Anne at April 22, 2004 10:35 AM

What time does this shindig start on 5/28?

Posted by: Dave B. at April 24, 2004 07:46 AM

If regular commenters are eligible, count me in.

Posted by: Charlie (Colorado) at April 26, 2004 04:24 PM

Is this a free (as in beer) event?

Posted by: Simian at April 26, 2004 05:45 PM

The event is open source. The beer is proprietary.

Or something like that.

Posted by: zombyboy at April 26, 2004 10:23 PM

How about irregular commentators?

Posted by: ken at April 27, 2004 12:52 AM

Just eat more fiber, Ken -- then come to the party.

Posted by: Stephen Green at April 30, 2004 12:18 AM

How soon in advance are these usually announced?

I believe The Queen and I would attend one if we were able to plan it six months or so out. (We're poor so we have to budget and save up.)

Posted by: Dean Esmay at May 4, 2004 05:44 AM

who gives a flying flip about wanna be news guy bloggers who think they are so shmarty?
show me more of that ass!

Posted by: gijoe at May 12, 2004 10:39 AM

GI Joe raises a valid point.

Posted by: Stephen Green at May 12, 2004 11:28 PM

I'll bet the girl in Jeff's picture has a couple of valid points of her own...

Posted by: Ed Driscoll at May 18, 2004 12:03 PM

Figures, we're not moving out to Colorado Springs for a few months, and we just got back last week.
I'll just have to make next year's bash!

Posted by: Chad at May 18, 2004 06:22 PM

No one has answered the question on the girl...

Posted by: Skeej at May 24, 2004 05:37 PM

Erm, what time? Is there a map? What's the cost? How much are drinks? Is it a full bar? What kind of beers.

Info. Yes. I crave more of it. Please.

Posted by: Jeff G at May 24, 2004 09:53 PM

Skeej, we were sort of hoping that you would be bringing the girls...

Posted by: zombyboy at May 25, 2004 11:38 AM

I'm hoping to be there. Maybe I'll even bring MY girl, though she's spoken for.

Posted by: Brian Behm at May 25, 2004 12:14 PM

Just a heads up, due to time limitations, looks like the silent auction is a no-go, unless you and Zomby had discussed in the last 24-48 hours.

However, there still might be a wee bit of a fundraiser for the charity in light of some materials I've recently acquired. We shall see.

Posted by: andy at May 25, 2004 10:08 PM

Well, heck - I was hoping to make it, but with the folks in town, it's a non-starter. This time. I'll stay tuned.

Posted by: ***Dave at May 26, 2004 09:33 AM

Ok! You've convinced me! Between the discussions of tarts and beer, I have found myself in a position where I am unable to deny myself the pleaseure of attending this gathering.

I will not be bringing any tarts with me. Sorry

Posted by: Corey at May 27, 2004 09:48 AM

Looks great, but I'm gonna have miss out on this one. Y'all have a great time.

Posted by: Leah Guildenstern at May 27, 2004 10:53 PM

Alas, I will not be in attendance, but my better half will. Cheers to all of you and certain ones of you know who to call if you get too drunk.

:)

Posted by: Full Grown Woman at May 28, 2004 07:29 AM
