Bad News

In a major blow against free speech and grassroots politics, the Supremes have upheld major portions of McCain-Feingold.

More on this later.

I'm surprised--I didn't think they would uphold it. Terribly disappointing.

RE: Bill of Rights....

" For me, this seems to violate that rule about government making no laws abridging freedom of speech, but it has been clear for some time now that the Constitution is no longer a binding document as far as this court is concerned." -- Someone cited by Walter

....void where prohibited by law.

And people, like Andy, wonder at my belief we're on a slippery slope.

Got REAL slippery when the Court started playing fast and loose with rights that are not in the Constitution. So if they can create 'rights' why CAN'T they take them away as well.

I attended a Mensa presentation by a prof of Constitutional Law from DU some years back. She explained that the legal system thinks there are no such thing as "constitutional rights" they are all TEXTUAL rights. Change the text you change the rights.
