I just read that he passed away. Far too young.
He was witty, clever, and a joy to be around.

If I were Bert I'd have something apt and humorous to say right now. I don't.
I knew Bert back in the late 80's and early 90's.
Truly a unique individual. He was real fun back then. Truly a nice guy.Now I wonder if Kaiser did all they could for him considering all of the insurance companies that are denying care to save a buck.
It's been 14 years since I've talked to Bert so today I thought I'd look him up only to discover this horrific news. I'm hoping this isn't the same Bert I knew back then. We met through the party in about 1978, he introduced me to my future husband (who died in 1992) and was always there for me. I'm horrified that I didn't even know he was sick so I could talk to him. It's the Bert whose last address I knew was on Clay Street. Please say this is not him.
Years later. Bert was my brother. Yes, he lived on So. Clay Street in Denver. I just read your comment, Cindy, and wish you'd been able to reach him. You will be glad to know that all during his long battle with leukemia he was surrounded by a very close group of loving friends and family and he continued to be great to talk to to the end, loving and appreciating everyone individually for who they are. What a guy!! I think of him and miss him a lot.
And, Cal, I loved what you had to say about Bert. All so true! I'd like for you to know that Kaiser spent a fortune absolutely open-handedly trying to save his life. He had a bone marrow transplant -- major medicine. They were terrific. If only they'd given him an MRI many months sooner at the front end and had found that the leukemia had returned earlier, he might have been spared months of unnecessary and terrible back pain.
