A guy here in Colorado did this to himself without even realizing it.

Six days later he went to the dentist complaining of a toothache. A very memorable x-ray, I think.

His doc says that's the second case he's seen where the person didn't even realize it. A trauma nurse friend of mine told me over coffee it's actually a pretty common experience because the projectile pretty cleanly severs the pain-sensing nerves, and it plugs the vessels that it severs, so the bleeding is often not very bad. He said at DG he's had people come in with knives, steel rebar, and other material sticking out of their bodies and didn't even realize it.

Just...just...holy damnit that x-ray is disturbing the crap out of me...

I thought it was kind of a pleasant seafoam color. Brightens up the blog a bit.

It's really more the idea of my eyeball on a skewer that's getting me here.

The color, on the other hand, is lovely.

I can't figure out why they opened up the top of his skull to remove it since it looks like it had to come out of his mouth the way it went in. Unless that was just to control the bleeding resulting.
